I went on a little day trip to downtown LA the other day. I explored the Fashion District, specifically the FIDM Museum and Gallery.
Last Saturday, December 13th, San Francisco donned Santa Claus costumes and took to the streets to celebrate SantaCon. For those who are not familiar with what SantaCon is, SantaCon is the annual bar crawl where everyone dresses up in holiday themed costumes and day drink all in the name of charity. Well, to raise money for charity and to collect toys to be donated. The tradition, based on a European event, started in San Francisco in the mid-90’s and eventually expanded to many other major cities. It’s always interesting seeing the sea of red polyester costumes and faux fur. You don’t have to dress up as Santa to attend either, as long as you’re wearing any winter holiday themed costume. This year I dressed up as Ralphie from A Christmas Story.
Like I said yesterday, although the things that happen at the Folsom St. Fair aren’t really my thing, I still go because I believe in keeping an open mind. Plus, it’s one of those things that is really part of San Francisco culture. If you live in San Francisco, you have to participate. It’s just what you do. The Folsom St. Fair is one of the biggest and longest running BDSM/Leather subculture festival in the world that takes place in September every year. I like to go because any reason to dress up and I’m all over it. And what people wear to the festival is really just fun to see. Pictures after the jump. To warn you, some pictures are NSFW.
I’ve spent the past two months studying for the GRE. The verbal section of the GRE was probably the hardest part for me. I have the hardest time memorizing vocabulary, especially words that have multiple meanings. I get that the GRE is mainly about strategy, but having to memorize words I never use with multiple meanings and when to use which meaning was a pain.
Anyway, meander was one of those words.
1. Verb – to wander aimlessly
2. Noun – an intricate variety of fretwork (ornamental design)
