SantaCon San Francisco 2014

December 20, 2014

Last Saturday, December 13th, San Francisco donned Santa Claus costumes and took to the streets to celebrate SantaCon.  For those who are not familiar with what SantaCon is, SantaCon is the annual bar crawl where everyone dresses up in holiday themed costumes and day drink all in the name of charity.  Well, to raise money for charity and to collect toys to be donated.  The tradition, based on a European event, started in San Francisco in the mid-90’s and eventually expanded to many other major cities.  It’s always interesting seeing the sea of red polyester costumes and faux fur.  You don’t have to dress up as Santa to attend either, as long as you’re wearing any winter holiday themed costume.  This year I dressed up as Ralphie from A Christmas Story.

I made it myself using this tutorial I found on Instructable.  For everyone who isn’t familiar with A Christmas Story, there is a scene where the main character receives a pink bunny onesie from his aunt.

he idea was cute in my head, but when we actually went out, it was unbearably hot and I had to go home and change.

It was a pink nightmare for me after going into a very crowded bar.

What’s different about SantaCon versus other bar crawls throughout the year is that there are multiple routes you can go covering the entire city.  My friends and I had a house party before going along Polk Street to join the festivities.
